CEBU City, a Unesco Creative City of Design, is hosting the country’s first art book fair on July 2-3, 2022.

The event, which will take place at From Here Content & Events Space in Crossroads Cebu, showcases the works of various local and national artists, with exclusive creative sessions from award-winning artists such as Larry Ypil, Clara Cayosa and Happy Garaje.

The event is an avenue for Cebuano artists and digital content creators where they can meet and sell their masterpieces.

The organizers are expecting around a hundred artists, designers, art creators, writers and poets who will present their works during this two-day event.

“This is a community event and we hope CABF will inspire our local artists, both new and those who have taken a break from the pandemic, to come back. It’s time to share their work again,” said Mark Deutsch of Happy Garaje, one of the organizers of the event.

Marc Abuan, a Bangkok-based graphic designer, said the upcoming event is part of an international network of organized book fairs held in New York, Melbourne, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

Art book fairs around the world are meant to celebrate art in printed form, including self-published art books, zines, posters and postcards.

In Southeast Asia alone, cities like Singapore and Bangkok have held successful expos over the past few years.

Deutsch said there would be no membership fees for the arist on a first-come, first-served basis.

Organizers noted that Crossroads, a strip mall that houses art shops, has always promoted and supported the art, design and creative communities in Cebu.

The two-day event features a poster exhibition titled “Estoryang Binotbot”, a theme interpreted by local creatives using illustration, collage, photography and even poetry.

It is also opening an exhibition area where various artists from Cebu, Manila and cities in other countries like Amsterdam, Bangkok, Tokyo and New York will display and sell printed versions of their work.

The organizers will cover the running costs of the exhibition such as poster printing and promotion.

Artists who are able to sell their works will have a 50/50 profit sharing with CABF, with proceeds going to support future Art Book Fair events.

There will be an entry fee of P25 for those wishing to attend the event.
