LIVE STRONG presents a body of artwork that continues to address the social and politically conscious issues of his lyrics, revealing Chuck D’s visual dexterity as he explores a wide range of subject matter paying homage to his musical influences and his peers, from James Brown and Woody Guthrie to label partners Def Jam Run-DMC and beast boysa host of Ice Cube’s most influential hip-hop artists to Run the Jewels, his twin passions of baseball and basketball, creating a collection of touring landscapes with Prophets of Rageand a range of sociopolitical plays that explore the issues that continue to shape our culture.

LIVE STRONG features Chuck D’s engaging commentary, guiding the reader through his thought process and inspirations and tracing his musical and artistic trajectory through illuminating anecdotes and cultural observations that provide unprecedented insight into his life and work.
Chuck’s text reveals his early experiences growing up in the turbulent era of the 1960s, during which he was shaped by the prevailing civil rights and anti-war sentiments of the time. He continues to share his journey through the world of hip-hop from his early roots and the central figures who critically shaped him and his voice, the formation of Public Enemy to their induction into Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, his time with Prophets of Rage to current world affairs.
With a foreword by Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, LIVE STRONG is a visual experience of over 250 works of art, each piece reflecting the man behind the music. Working with a selection of media, sketchbooks and canvas, Chuck D has produced hundreds of works of art over the past six years. Everything from oil paintings of 1950s baseball fields to pencil sketches of music icons from nina simoneBob Dylan and the Beastie Boys have been selected exclusively for Genesis Publications to create a striking kaleidoscope of his work.
