Digital art, photography on display at Nevada City Winery

Fine art photographer and digital artist Kathy Triolo opens her “Wings and Whimsy” exhibition at the Nevada City Winery Gallery on February 17. The exhibition runs until March 27. Opening Reception, February 18, 5-7 p.m.

She uses photography as a way to document the everyday world around her and enjoys taking images that draw attention to things that others might overlook or consider mundane. Like his photo of the red-headed vulture which is as majestic as any bald eagle.

This exhibit highlights images of common birds that Triolo has photographed over the past year and worked with digitally through a creative process in Photoshop. Many of them are steeped in a bit of “whimsy” while others are simply meant to be enjoyed “as is”, hence the title “Wings and Whimsy”.

Triolo says, “I’ve been creative all my life. My mom repeatedly worried that I would start something only to lose interest and follow another brilliant thread. Little did she know that I was doing something like wine tasting…tasting the buffet of life and staying a little longer with something that spoke to me and a little less time with things that had no value for me. I finally settled in with photography from the first click of my shiny new Brownie camera.

Although she started out as an art major in college, she eventually became a marriage and family therapist working with special needs families, children and adults with disabilities. After retiring, Triolo found his way back to photography; And over the past six years, she has dedicated herself to rediscovering her love of photography and digital art.
