Exhibition My city, my SM, my art book

Carlos Totong Francisco II, alongside his 2021 painting Inseparable, is the devoted guardian of the family and his memories of Lolo Botong.

To celebrate National Arts Month, SM recently showcased the lives and works of some of Rizal’s most compelling visual artists at the My City, My SM, My Art at SM City Masinag and SM City Taytay book exhibitions.

The exhibition featured pages from the book, which is a compilation of the My City, My SM, My Art campaign highlighting the best of painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and cinema in the Philippines. During its three-year cultural journey from 2016 to 2019, My City, My SM, My Art showcased masters, modernists and millennials in a roadshow around SM Supermalls as far north as the Cordilleras and as far north as south than General Santos.

During the exhibitions, visitors to the mall got a rare glimpse of the My Art home book, which is inspired by Luzon’s Bahay na Bato.

At SM City Masinag, the larger-than-life book pages showcased the life and works of National Artist for Painting Carlos Botong Francisco, the Angono poet who revived the art of mural painting and was named the most distinguished practitioner of his time.

A capsule collection of Carlos Totong Francisco II, a full-time artist and grandson of Carlos Botong Francisco, who is also the custodian of the Francisco family collection and assets, was also highlighted.

At SM City Taytay, the My Art book exhibition showcased the life and works of maestro Jose Pitok Blanco, known for his murals depicting the joyful celebrations in Angono that capture the faces of real people in the city.

My City, My SM, My Art is the latest installment in the My City, My SM series, celebrating the beauty, culture, traditions and great people of the cities in the Philippines where SM has shopping malls. This comes after My City, My SM, which highlights tourism; My City, My SM, My Cuisine, which features age-old recipes from prominent families in the country, and My City, My SM, My Crafts, a celebration of traditional arts and modern Filipino design.
