âI just want, at the grassroots level, young black children and the people of Philadelphia to be inspired by the work and shops of black businesses,â artist Nazeer Sabree said. “And for us artists, it’s also super important.”
This project embodies the love and courage that represent Philadelphia.
It is the idea that individuals can turn loss into inspiration and empty spaces into opportunity.
âI think it will help us because we’re scattered all over town, and maybe people haven’t found us yet,â said owner Shannon Maldonado of Yowie in the city center. “We’ve been here for five years already and people ask us if we’ve just opened. Getting more visibility is something we can all use.”
Art fans also have the chance to win nearly $ 2,000 in prizes with selected gifts from some of the best Black and Brown owned stores in Philly.
It’s also the second year of Shop Black Business Friday, which takes place every Friday in December.
