MJ present in “Illumination: an exhibition of art photographs”

Agora Gallery, a contemporary art gallery located in the heart of New York’s Chelsea Fine Arts District, is soon offering an exciting exhibition where it will showcase the original work of French artist Love U Sev, the stunning photographic collages by Michael Jackson in ‘Illumination: An Exhibition of Art Photography.’

His surreal portrait photography is both fascinating and otherworldly. Love U Sev approaches her photographs in an entirely new way, and for this exhibition she has superimposed her own self-portraits with portraits of Michael Jackson, without retouching either image. The resulting image is a figurative study of contrast and juxtaposition, as elements of each face emerge and recede to create a surreal and highly emotional effect that is almost abstract in its execution. The driving force behind the art of Love U Sev is deep and lasting love. These photographs were inspired by two intense dramas that occurred in the artist’s life: the death of Michael in 2009 and that of her husband in 2010. The emotional depth of the resulting images is nothing if not intense. And the truncation of the artist’s own face is both symbolic and deliberate, because as she explains “I’m not whole anymore… these photos are my sleeping heart on glossy paper.

Love U Sev currently lives and works in Paris, France.

Illumination: An art photography exhibition showcases the striking, breathtaking and unforgettable images taken by talented contemporary art photographers. These artists use a range of methods to achieve their effects, some embracing digital technology and its possibilities, and others preferring to stick to the richness of more traditional methods. Each artist puts a lot of thought and care into the composition of every aspect of their image, without compromising their sense of spontaneity and openness to their surroundings. The result is extremely engaging and often fully immersive, as if the viewer is being offered an entry into a world that is encapsulated in the magic of the image in front of them. This time it is the magic of the images of Michael in Love U Sev that viewers will be immersed in.

Over the years, Agora Gallery has sponsored and organized special events aimed at fostering social awareness and promoting the use of art to help those in need.

The exhibition opens on November 4, 2014 and continues until November 25, 2014.

The opening will take place on November 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The gallery is located at 530 West 25th St, Chelsea, New York and the hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
