IOWA CITY – Public Space One (PS1) presents its annual art auction exhibit, Random Generator, in the PS1 Gallery’s new space, PS1 Close, 538 S. Gilbert St., and on the website Thursday through 12th of March. Auctions will be posted on publicspaceone.com/auction Thursday at 7 p.m. The fundraising auction will end on March 12, when there will be a reception from 7 to 8 p.m., with a celebratory wrap-up program broadcast live and in the studio.
Generated from a (less than random) sampling of Eastern Iowa or tangential artists, over 80 distinct art objects have been collected for redistribution to the public in support of programming from the PS1 gallery for another year. The Random Generator auction offers in-person viewing and online bidding.
This year’s auction has something for everyone, from large-scale paintings to intimate assemblages (and every stitch, media, and genre in between).
Cow Cube Blue, a stained glass window by Brooke Dearborn, is one of the artworks featured in the Public Square One Random Generator auction. (Public square one)
Proceeds from the auction will support Public Space One’s day-to-day arts programming and operations, including exhibitions, performances, residencies, and resources for artists and artistic creation. The benefit will also support renovations to the PS1 gallery space, enhancing our environment for contemporary art in downtown Iowa City. New this year is a raffle with contributions from Trumpet Blossom, White Rabbit, Willow & Stock, RSVP, Home Ec., Femmedecks and a handful of other businesses.
The gallery’s opening hours for viewing the work are 1 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and noon to 3 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday. All auctions take place online.
